FEATURED ORGANIZATION:

Small Business Opportunity Conference
WHEN: Saturday, April 8 2006 8:30am - 2:30pm
WHERE: Northwestern University School of Law, Chicago, Illinois

The Small Business Opportunity Conference is Northwestern Law School's annual
conference exploring various entrepreneurship and small business issues.
The Conference was held on Saturday, April 8, 2006 and featured high-profile, yet
not too "high brow" keynote speakers, panels and workshops covering several
aspects of entrepreneurship.

What I found refreshing about the event and Northwestern's approach with it
was that it was a real collaborative event, with people presenting from Loyola
and other organizations - not a Northwestern dominant braintrust as I've
experienced in the past. You left this event feeling educated, not just
lectured to.

Admission was free and included a full Networking Lunch, Cocktails & Dessert -
mmm...top notch.

Activities & Topics Covered:
Distinguished Entrepreneur Award
Growing a Small Business
Financing a Start-Up
Social Entrepreneurship
Protecting the Next Big Idea
Workshops

It was a good crowd and mix of backgrounds...

Dr. Mukharji (L) is the Executive Director of Northwestern University's Technology

people who presented at the event.

Golden Retriever Caught After 2 Years

original by ANNE SAUNDERS, Associated Press Writer
Fri Apr 7, 10:26 PM ET
(Adapted/Edited Version):

STRATHAM, N.H. - Satellite tracking, helicopter surveillance and dart guns failed.
In the end, it was a ham dinner and a remote-controlled net that brought
a golden retriever named Sam in from the cold after two years on the run...

Technology Used To Find A Dog:

2 years cruising roads
Helicopter
Experts with infrared cameras
Donations for remote-controlled net
Police Officer devotes hours of his own time to tracking the dog
Video monitoring

Great news - they found the dog. I DO love golden
retrievers - kind of odd isn't it since it took two years to retrieve a retriever... ;-)

Hmmm... "They are counting on the dog's obvious intelligence to help him recognize that it's not a bad deal to be a beloved pet."

...Let's hope that most runaway or kidnapped children can have the same
homecoming story.

Confession time... I myself was abducted to be taken to another state
when I was 11 years old. I loved technology just as much back then - Too bad
I didn't have my walkie talkie, 'cause CB radio was about the best technology around back then.

Yes, I got back ok, only after threatening to make the car my toilet unless I
was allowed to relieve myself at a highway rest area - where I promptly and
loudly refused to get back in the car when I was done... ;-)

Take a look at ACIM below, it's good to know that similar technology is available for finding
human beings as well...

A good example of technology, and just as important - a "system" being used to
find humans has been spearheaded by A Child Is Missing (ACIM) - a 501c3
not-for- profit organization; freely serving law enforcement since 1997,
associated with the Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital and has a record of having
138 safe recoveries so far...
